Projects
Numerous projects and activities are under way at Moorunde and the other mallee sanctuaries. The Projects menu has details of some of these activities.
Research projects are undertaken by both Wombats SA / Society members and external researchers. Newest projects below the Menu items.
Save Our Wonderful Wombats
Young people, Teachers, schools can benefit from this
great Online Educational Resource. Learn about wombats.
Moorunde Nature Trail
A very interesting nature trail, only 1.3kms long. Immerse yourself in the mallee experience. See some wombat burrows, etc.
Wombat Population Study
To assess effectiveness of Moorunde WR, member Glen Taylor did a study to estimate its wombat population & more.
Motion Camera Monitoring
Motion-sensitive cameras help gauge health & behaviour of wombats & other wildife across different areas & habitat types.
Weed Eradication Projects
Members & Volunteers and families contribute much time & effort to reducing & eradicating weeds from our reserves.

River Murray Dark Sky Reserve
It spans 3250 Sq Km in SA with Swan Reach Conservation Park at its core. Moorunde WR is fully inside so night skies are great!
Help Wombats SA Project Work
Reserves need constant care and maintenance, plus habitat rehabilitation, research and survey projects. Can You Help?
Research projects are undertaken by both Wombats SA / Society members and external researchers. Some current research projects being undertaken by external researchers are:
Exploring Wombat Health & Chronic Stress
Wombat Diet Reconstruction
Using DNA analysis of scat samples
Nectar Yields of Mallee Eucalyptus
A food source for pygmy possums
Marginal to Mainstream Site Management Plan
Protecting and managing grassy ecosystems through management
Motion sensor cameras
Compare video and still imagery (over 25 sites) as tools to try and determine occupancy rates of warrens, so we can extrapolate to estimate abundance and condition
Research projects with a focus on improved understanding of our native flora and fauna for protection and preservation are always welcome.
