Soon after Moorunde Wildlife Reserve was established in 1968, members started to survey the locations of wombat warrens on the property. Glen Taylor led this activity and has continued regular monitoring of animal activity at the burrows of these warrens.
The original 2,000ha reserve consisted of two sections (North and South sections) forming an L-shape property. The interactive map below shows all of the wombat warrens surveyed on these sections. “The size of warrens varies tremendously, ranging from single burrows to complex systems with as many as 62 interconnected burrows” [Taylor 1977]. Glen is continuing the warren survey over the additional 5,000ha Twelve Mile Plain section of the reserve, which the Society acquired in 2007.
