Want to Learn about Wombats and Wombats SA?
Past-President, long-term member, Dr Peter Clements can tell you about the work of Wombats SA in protecting the southern hairy-nosed wombat.
Dr Peter Clements is a past president (8 years) of Wombats SA. In his presentation he describes one of the first environmental campaigns in 1967/68 in SA to save some habitat of the southern hairy nosed wombat. He describes the life and behaviours of this fascinating marsupial, its unusual pouch, its unusual poo and its extreme dryland-adapted metabolism.
He also describes some of the efforts to protect it from external pressures including pressure from other grazing animals, feral pests, and invasive weeds. Some research projects carried out by the Society are described. The wombat is a creature with many remarkable features and has been adopted as the state fauna emblem. Come and find out why.
